This book is top notch for hiking on trails for REAL hikers not people who want to looky see from the car and walk a block pushing kids in a stroller. This is one of the best guide for real ideas on hiking this GREAT perfect GEM of the Rockies. I have the older copy and used it to my enjoyment. The maps on this version are superior and looks to be updated with current maps out there. If you want a great REAL hiking guide to the park, this is it. No its not for the hike a block and back to the car person. Don't believe a rating based on their lack of reading who this book is for. duh... For reference, I have bought the Falcon Guides to Shenandoah and Acadia as well and really love them. This one is a total bust.The trails covered is very fine, but each trail description is quite weak. Each trail starts with a "Why Go" entry, but never answers the question. It's answer to "Why Go" is a description of what the hike is: a X mile trail to Y destination.-The trails descriptions contain elevation gain but not loss-Trails lack good detail to really help you evaluate. For example, Ptarmigan Tunnel, one of the park's popular hikes, has a 300 foor climb in about a half mile, that starts where the trail breaks off from the Iceberg Lake trail...not described. The details of the ascent from the Ptarmigan Lake to the Tunnel itself is three long and hard switchbacks...not described.Another major flaw is that instead of treating some hikes in the same area as discrete, it treats them as a complex, making it hard to know for each particular hike what the details relevant to it are. For example, Grinnel Lake and Grinnel Glacier are two different hikes but they are bunched together in the "Grinnel Complex" instead of getting easy to use entries for each.SHORT STORY: THIS GUIDE DOES NOT CONTAIN GOOD INFORMATION TO HELP YOU CHOOSE WHICH HIKES TO DO, AND THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF A GUIDE!
